A note from the person who built this

Why this app exists — and why it's free

Last year I started making videos — teaching myself content production, shooting take after take after take. My iPhone was permanently full. Right when I wanted to film, right when something worth capturing happened: Storage Almost Full.

So I did what everyone does — I looked at cleaner apps. Every single one wanted $5–10 a month, or my data, or both. To delete files. On my own phone. We're all paying for enough subscriptions already — and if you're also paying for Tinder, honestly, that's expensive enough.

I've built software for 14 years. I grew up in India and have lived in Berlin for more than a decade, where I lead technology at a company. So I spent my evenings building the cleaner I wanted: one that runs entirely on your phone. No servers, no accounts, no data collection — which is exactly why it can be free. It costs me nothing to run, so it costs you nothing to use.

And one thing I can't ignore: back home in India, a lot of people pay for their iPhone in monthly installments — to banks, sometimes to money lenders. Someone who is still paying off their phone should not pay again every month just to manage its storage. Not in India, not in Germany, not anywhere.

DupFinder isn't magic, and it doesn't pretend to be. It does what's honestly possible on an iPhone: finds exact duplicates with mathematical proof, groups similar shots, scores blurry photos, compresses heavy videos. The rest is in your hands — and your photos never leave your phone, because there is nothing in this app that could ever send them anywhere.

Seven tools, one app

Everything the paid cleaners do.
Nothing they shouldn't.

Every scan runs on your iPhone's own chip. Nothing is uploaded, because nothing can be.

Exact duplicates — with proof

Every photo, video, and file compared by SHA-256 content fingerprint. A match means byte-for-byte identical — never a guess. Tap any group and see the hash yourself.

Similar shots

On-device visual analysis groups retakes and bursts. Adjustable sensitivity re-groups instantly, and swipe mode makes review fast — keep the best, clear the rest.

Screenshots

iOS tags screenshots natively, so the grid is exact. Smart selects like “older than 1 month.”

Blurry photos

Every photo gets a sharpness score. Review the blurriest first, clear them in bulk.

Large files

Biggest media first. Compress videos, convert Live Photos — with an honest savings report.

Files & iCloud Drive

Pick any folder from the Files app and run the same exact-match engine on documents and downloads — the tool almost no cleaner offers.

Safe by default

Deletions go to Recently Deleted — recoverable for 30 days. Every result is verified and reported: “deleted 200 of 200,” or the real reason why not.

See

One honest dashboard

Your whole storage, broken down truthfully — what the app can clean, what only iOS can, and never a fake "boost" button. The number at the center is what you can actually get back.

Prove

Duplicates with receipts

Every duplicate group shows its SHA-256 content hash. Same hash, same file — you can verify it yourself. "Keep newest" selects the rest in one tap.

Decide

Swipe through a month in minutes

Left deletes, right keeps — and nothing is removed until you confirm at the end. Every delete lands in Recently Deleted, recoverable for 30 days.

Check the labels yourself

What the other cleaner apps collect.
And what we don't.

These are the official App Privacy labels from the App Store — each app's own declaration to Apple. Verifying takes ten seconds on any store page.

Independent research found 100% of reviewed phone-cleaner apps share user data with third parties, and 90% share device identifiers. DupFinder can't — it contains no networking code at all.

The honesty clause

No iPhone app can clear other apps' caches or “boost” your phone — iOS forbids it. Apps claiming otherwise are showing animations. DupFinder tells you what actually frees space, and does the part an app truly can: your photos, videos, and files. The rest is in your hands.

No fine print

Questions, answered straight

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Free forever, no catch — and here's why that's believable: the app has no servers, no cloud, no compute costs. Everything runs on your phone, so there is nothing for anyone to pay for. It cost a few weeks of one engineer's work, and that's already paid.

Who built this?

Sanjay Yadav — founder, 14 years in tech, grew up in India, based in Berlin for over a decade. DupFinder is a product of TechNow GmbH, Berlin — but it began as one person’s evenings, and he still uses it on his own phone every week.

Can deleted photos be recovered?

Yes — every deletion goes through iOS's own confirmation and lands in Recently Deleted, where it's recoverable for about 30 days.

What does “similar” mean vs. “exact”?

Exact = identical file content, proven by SHA-256 hash. Similar = visually near-identical retakes and bursts found by on-device analysis — clearly separated in the app so you always know which is which.

Does anything leave my phone?

No. The app has no networking code, so scanning, analysis, and deletion all happen on your device. There is nothing to opt out of because nothing is collected.

Which iPhones does it support?

iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
